We are not your ordinary grocery store
Lee & Dad's Grocery was originally opened by Lee McMilin in November of 1945. Lee's first store was located on east Main Street next to where the Mint Bar and Cafe' is located today. Lee's dad (Harry) and Harry's wife Lela came to work for him shortly after opening. That is how the name Lee and Dad's got started.
As Belgrade grew through the years so did Lee and Dad's. We have had 3 locations on Main Street before moving to our current location by the interstate in 1977. In the beginning we were a stand alone market, but soon after we were joined by Coast to Coast Hardware.
A few years later a strip mall was added and we became part of the Valley Center Shopping Mall. "Dad" Harry McMilin died in December of 1964 and Lee's mother, Lela continued to work until July of 1967, when she retired. Lee and his wife, Betty continued to work in the business. Lee's son, Jim became an active partner in the store beginning in the meat department and working his way up.Dan Gustafson after working with Jim and Lee since high school became a partner in 1977. When Lee retired in 1981, Jim and Dan retained control of the store and continue to run Lee and Dad's.
